Last week, the sensationally sounding vocalist Val Rogers and her longtime collaborator and pianist Bill Groth visited Country Living at Westview Commons and performed an outdoor concert for the residents. The set list was determined by this musical pair's elaborate knowledge of jazz standards and the great American songbook—you know the hits.

The vivacious Val performed amid radiant sunshine, under the porte-cochère in front of the building. Her presentation included not only the classic songs, but also a narrative dialogue recounting her years as an internationally-traveling USO performer. The patriotic stripe weaving throughout her show forms a strong connection to Val and the generations in her audience.

Val and Bill's performance lasted for over an hour, and you get the feeling that it could have extended for hours more. Val and Bill form an excellent tandem with their encyclopedic range of songs and artists and genres. Their preparation and experience together frame the whole show with an easy chemistry. Later in their set they will even open up to their audience, asking if anyone has a favorite song they’d like to hear. This creates some of the most endearing moments between the perfromers and audience. Not only is Val Roger's show performed with the highest excellence, but its level of interaction with audiences make for a captivating entertainment experience.
